Songs of the Revolution – 4. Credo

Lyrics:

Now Lads let’s all raise our tankards on high

We all work together to tear loose the tether

We must not forget that in one can be many

And just as surely can many be one

Tom Brill is a Catholic and I am a Quaker

We’re Lutherans, Deists, Calvinists too

My side-man’s a Black man, our guides are the Red men

We all fight as one man – for fair Liberty

We are thirteen in one and together we’re free

Standing alone ‘gainst the Crown we’d be fleas

Standing together in spite of our differences

We know that together we’re strong and we’re free

Jack Henry’s from Scotland and Darby’s from Eire

O’Conner’s from Boston and sank British tea

Grossman’s from Russia – the pogroms did flee

And our General in charge is from old ‘Virginee’

We’re men of high spirit with musket and blade

Who envision a world where all tyranny fades

Down with King George and the men ‘cross the sea

Give us our voice and our own Liberty

Tom Brill is a Catholic and I am a Quaker

We’re Lutherans, Deists, and Calvinists too

My side-man’s a Black man, our guides are the Red men

We all fight as one man, for fair Liberty

We’re thirteen in one and together we’re free

Standing alone ‘gainst the Crown we’d be fleas

Standing together in spite of divisions

We know that together we’re strong and we’re free
